A Note from Bill

I would not be the artist I am without Mark Lamos.

Mark was my first theatrical role model. I marveled at his productions of Shakespeare and Ibsen as a young audience member. He hired me as an actor at 17, while I was still in high school, to join his production of Julius Caesar at Hartford Stage, and after I completed my undergraduate studies, he invited me to be his assistant and then associate on what would become my first Broadway show.

Fascinating Rhythm was my Broadway debut. It began at Hartford Stage, moved a year later to Arizona Theatre Company in a completely reimagined production, and then transferred to the Longacre Theatre for its Broadway run.

Mark, Mel Marvin, and David Marquez put together a sizzling collection of Gershwin tunes in a stylish, star-studded production. Leading a Broadway tech rehearsal at the age of 26 is something I will never forget.

It was a fascinating chapter.
